And so time flows [Feb. 1st, 2008|11:56 pm]
[Current Location |ss0]
[music |Jimmy Eat World - Hear You Me]

And so the eons pass, and a post is formed and floated into the ether.....or some such nonsense.

This post is mostly to say thankyou to all who wished me a happy birthday and to those who came to my birthday. The turnout was amazing, i didn't expect anywhere near that many people! I think everyone had a good time and there didn't seem to be any major calamities so its all good! Great to see everyone, need to get myself some proper transport so i can get myself out to see people more easily, but we shall see where the tide takes me.

Tacking on a quick update, still in same flat til end of may now (6 month extension), still working at same place, permanent as of december, possible promotion opportunities coming up, still...well...the same in everyway really! How boring of me! Ah well, maybe soon i'll have a useful update....

Update :o [May. 6th, 2007|01:19 am]
[Current Location |ss0]
[mood | sleepy]

An update of updatiness, actually quite an important one.

This is because things have been very rushed and internet isn't very readily available.

So, last wednesday at yates suggestion I returned to the essexlands to nose at a few flats with him, to see what was going on. As he had said he'd seen a really good one (take into account the fact we'd only been looking a week so I hadn't been expecting anything much, only really just decided to move to essex). So, once i'd seen it we pretty much decided to take it, perks include:

 - 2 large bedrooms, large living room.
 - Being totally redecorated.
 - Estate agent that is fine with me being unemployed initially.
 - Nice and close to a train station and town centre.
 - Very close to takeaways of all descriptions (chinese, indian, fish/chips, italian, pizza hut, kebab, kfc, noodles, bagels, subway, and more, multiple of sum. By close i mean all within a 5 minute walk. (This one might be a con).
 - Cheap price for the area.

So yeah, looks like we could well have keys in a week. Only real con is its on a main road, but its double glazed so thats no big deal.

Next i decided on thursday to sign up in job agency's. Went into town and strolled into one called Reed. Spoke to a woman and within 2 minutes was sent to someone else. She then told me if the position is still going she can prolly get me an interview early next week, and i stand a good chance of getting the job. Is helpdesking business customers for an ISP, gonna be a bit boring I expect, but be a nice chance to learn and pay is good enough!

So, yeah. Its been rushed and all, and I will be back in canterbury (probably this weekend getting stuff, then hopefully keynestock weekend, then definitly when all essex friends are off to rock am ring so i'm not all alone here). So we better organise things!

OH! Another thing. The flat is unfurnished, we've scavenged excellently so far, getting most things. We are only missing one thing really, a fridge/freezer. If anyone has one (preferably essex based) which they are trying to get rid of either free or for a fee, please tell me. Will discuss with Mr Yates and hopefully take it off your hands :). Also we are after a 2nd sofa (sofa bed we are thinking of). Same again, anyone getting rid of one, gimme a shout, we'll try and sort something out!

Final thing, anyone know if its possible to get a cable company to do a 6 month contract? we'll prolly be in the house 12 but i dont wanna get stuck in a 12 monther if possible. Virgin media's sight only says 12 month :(.

Thats all for now folks!

Phone Problems [Aug. 13th, 2006|10:53 pm]
This update is just to say I'm having phone problems. I cant send text messages. I can still make/receive calls and receive texts though. The actual problem the phone says is "Memory full" however it isnt, i have checked. A hard reset fixed it for about a day but it came straight back. This post is to say two other things:

1) Any ideas for fixing it, please tell me :)
2) If you have a spare o2 capable phone i could borrow til i get this sorted i'd be much obliged :).

Stupid phones!

A few things... [Jul. 20th, 2006|10:58 pm]
[music |3 Doors Down - Be Like That]

Ahh, the update.

Going back to before my post about my house having internet slightly, I have settled into my new house. The Wendy also seems mostly settled and now we just await the coming of the becky to complete the fearsome three that are the residents of 5ssr.

For those who don't know, I've finished the cleaning job (if i even said I was doing it on here) and have moved over to working as a "Computing Assistant" in the Computing building for summer as well as applying for a slightly more long term job which I'll hopefully hear back about soon.

I've been quite enjoying working full time, it might sound silly but i've enjoyed doing work (even in the heat!) and then coming in and having things to do and a lot less time doing nothing. Now I just need to enhance things a bit, been getting more time doing very little, I'm looking into getting a bit more exercise into my life since i enjoy it and have the time for it. The choices are really:

- Getting a bike and cycling - I must say I seem to have lost the appetite a bit for this, a bike is generally pretty uneeded in canterbury given its size.
- Joining Kingsmeade gym - Not a fan of swimming so would just be the gym bit, never done this before so anyone who's been to kingsmeade, opinions? and prices if you know them :).

The Essex lot, I know i've missed a coupla planned visits back (although I was ill for one in my defence), I'm intending to come back the weekend of the 5th/6th of August, assuming people are going to be around, up for something saturday daytime/evening and such, please let me know :).

Oh, and graduation was good fun :). Dressing up all smart (yes its true, me smart!) and wandering around feeling all important. Was an excellent few days as a whole, my own ceremony as well as the others I visited to see people I knew, although a little sad knowing some of the people I may not see again. Dave/Mum, can you send me the pics you people took? :)

Updateeeeee [Jun. 12th, 2006|10:00 pm]
[Current Location |Downstairs]
[mood | tired]
[music |Junk TV on Sky]

Well, there's been a few people wondering where I've been recently and even random rumours flying around (The ones i've heard being unfortunately untrue :( ).

Well, in the months since my last update I've done all my exams and finished my degree, currently waiting for the results which have been delayed because of the strike stuff, but hopefully get them sooner rather than later.

Spent a lot of time sorting out summer, getting jobs lined up and stuff. Currently I'm doing cleaning on campus which has led to me being up at 7am 8 days running now, with 4 more days to go (including 6am on sunday) and then spending all day running around carrying things in the high temperatures, sometimes in the sun. As a bonus i dont do any cleaning, but its really tiring so not been going out. Surprisingly fun though, met a buncha cool people so tend to have a laugh.

Sometime at the end of the month I move house and change jobs to a helpdesk based one, less hours and manual labour hopefully, but pay will work out similar, which will be nice. Will be able to sort out a trip back to Essex as well at some point as well (someone tell me when everyone will be around).

What else has happened, there was a taglan that was fun as always, had some aerobie throwing, a bit of laser quest, a beach trip, and other fun things, but yeah been busy mostly. Had maybe 2 times of more than 5 mins on computer in the last 9 days or so which has been quite a refreshing change.

Ummm, more stuff prolly should go here, but sleep time and my mind is tiiiired.

Oh, and for you oh jo....teh sexy.

That is all.

Updatiness [Mar. 29th, 2006|01:40 am]
[mood | tired]
[music |OLP]

Well, i guess an update of sorts. First things first, got my project in. Ended up at about 16000 words and 50 odd pages plus a load of appendices. I really feel the hole project was a total loss in the end. Yes I now know j2me really well and it was good to get knowledge on building large programs for the first time ever, but I had *really* hoped I'd get to do something I'd enjoy and really get into it and have hours of fun tinkering with bits. In the end i just got fed up with the whole thing and couldnt be bothered. Looking back I wish I'd put more thought into my own ideas, maybe do something involving websites and such, would of be of infinitely more interest to me. At least its done.

Next, I had a couple of pleasant surprises recently. First, getting 51% in my quant economics test. For those who don't know, this module is, in my opinion, the hardest module I've ever done (and its only rated as Intermediate, not higher). I expected about 10%, so 51% was awesome. Got 63% in the first one having expected 40%, so maybe, just maybe i can pull off 55% or so in the final exam. Second bonus was the bursary people emailed me random giving me some more money, which is always nice!

Erm, Taglan people - http://charsent.phlipped.co.uk/taglan.html - Just some useful information while the wiki is down. Read the top 2 points, particularly #1. Tiggs can you poke DA to it please? :).

What else....finally put a properly working hard drive in my main PC and its working again. Takes ages to boot for some reason, but it hasn't randomly crashed yet.

Also managing to still (mostly) not having trouble getting to sleep, although i've had a few 2/3am's recently which i really hope won't throw me out again. After tomorrow's test at 11am I dont have a reason to get up early til about the 6th of May, i think if by the end of April i can still sleep by midnight relatively easily i can be a bit more comfortable its settled in!

I know i had something else to say....but i've forgotten it. So sleep.

An Update! [Mar. 15th, 2006|11:21 pm]
[mood | optimistic]
[music |our lady peace - life]

well, an update is here!

One big change since my last update. I'm managing to hold an almost normal sleeping pattern. For anyone who doesnt know, i've had real issues for years really getting to sleep before 3/4am. Now many used to say "just go to bed earlier". It didnt work. Now, about 2 weeks ago I actually managed to get to sleep around 10pm and have since have averaged around midnight. I tend to now wake up 8.30am or so and am so much better for it. I've got so much more work done and am once again able to take things in and understand them at uni. 3 weeks ago i got 25% in the bit of econmics i'm *good* at. Next week I've got another test in it, and anything below 70% will be dissapointing and i'd put it all down to this improved sleeping pattern.

Now, general things. Been working hard lately, as much as possible. Went out to Mark (shrimpy's) birthday on monday and had a great time, was quite a change going out with people I don't see so often, knew about half the people there (which was more than i had expected) and was good fun!

Organising another taglan, filled all the places and booked the venue. Head on to the wiki if you want to find out when it is to visit (or reserve a reserve place in case someone drops out!). If you don't know the wiki address but are interested gimme a poke.

Other than that, i'm slowly getting other things together. *hugs* out to liz, you know why :). If i can really crack down with work and maybe get around to sorting out a few other things I could have quite a nice easter ahead i think.

Also refound a low for Jimmy Eat World and Our Lady Peace, such good bands. I think my current song seems quite relevant as this is such a general post. Ohhhh, my mp3 player seems to be on the way out though :(.

Looking forward I am, not to anything specific, just generally. I think i've got some of my optimism back, things have changed so much since i was eternally (probably annoyingly so) optimistic, but it'd be nice to get back to that place.
